Transforming from an island once known as a stronghold for rebels and home to a diverse population of minorities, Mindoro Island in the Philippines is experiencing a remarkable shift. Amidst its lush landscapes and vibrant communities, a powerful wave of change is sweeping through, largely propelled by the far-reaching influence of radio ministry and an established relationship between the church and the local populace.
 
In recent years, the island of Mindoro has emerged as a beacon of faith, with the Adventist Church playing a pivotal role in fostering unity and spreading the message of hope. This transformation is all the more striking considering the island's history, marked by challenges and unrest. With a population exceeding 1.4 million, Mindoro has become a fertile ground for the Adventist Church to sow the seeds of the gospel, cultivating a growing community of believers and shaping a narrative of renewal and optimism.
 
In a historic event, the newly established Mindoro Islands Mission (MIM), the youngest full-fledged mission within the jurisdiction of the Adventist Church in the North Philippines (NPUC), held its inaugural Constituency Meeting on January 11, 2024. This development unlocks myriad opportunities for the Adventist Church to extend its impact and forge deeper connections within the community. The opening ceremony commenced with a processional led by all delegates and invitees, numbering approximately 300.
 
Following the recent reorganization, the provinces of Mindoro have transitioned from the jurisdiction of the South-Central Luzon Conference to the newly established MIM, officially approved by the NPUC Executive Committee on June 28, 2023.
 
The leadership of MIM is currently helmed by Pastor Danilo Fiecas as President, Neptale Fofue as Executive Secretary, and Roland Fabon as Treasurer. MIM is tasked with overseeing the growth and progression of gospel work in the provinces of Occidental and Oriental Mindoro. Currently, MIM encompasses a total of 132 churches, 45 companies, and 24,561 church members. The MIM 1st Constituency Meeting is set to continue until January 13, 2024.

Chosen for Mission
Gerardo Cajobe, President of the North Philippine Union Conference, delivered the keynote address centered around the theme "Chosen for Mission." The foundation of this study is rooted in 2 Peter 2:9, which states, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”
 
Cajobe reminded the audience that, as believers, they are chosen people, set apart for God's purpose of sharing the good news of God’s salvation throughout every corner of Mindoro. They are consecrated people; that is, in Christ, they are part of a royal priesthood, enjoying direct access to God and the privilege of worshiping Him.

Cajobe also stressed the importance of implementing new methods to reach all corners of MIM, citing counsel from EGW. "New methods must be introduced. God’s people must awaken to the necessities of the time in which they are living" (Ev.  p. 70).She further asserts, “Whatever may have been your former practice, it is not necessary to repeat it again and again in the same way. God would have used new and untried methods. Break in upon the people—surprise them" (Ev. p. 25).
 
In addressing the mission’s budgetary need, he shared a powerful quote from GT Ng, retired Executive Secretary of the World Church: "When the mission comes first, the money comes later," encapsulating the dedication required for effective mission work.
 
The constituency meeting signifies the formation of a fresh cohort of officers and directors poised to lead the charge in this burgeoning mission field. Integral to this gathering is not only the establishment of new leadership but also the pivotal alignment of objectives and initiatives with the broader vision of the Adventist World Church. This ensures a harmonious integration of global initiatives tailored to address the specific needs of the local community it oversees.
 
Partnership with the Local Communities
Mr. Junjie Tria, the barangay captain of San Roque II, attended the event in honor of it and expressed admiration for the Adventists' sincere prayers. He recounted an incident when their fervent prayers left a lasting impact, recalling a moment when he could hardly stand after receiving a heartfelt and lengthy prayer.
 
Ma’am Guia Manelle Camandang, executive secretary of provincial governor Hon. Eduardo Gadiano, extended a warm welcome, assuring every one of the government’s wholehearted support for the mission's programs and endeavors.
