Sison, Pangasinan, located in the northern region of Luzon, serves as the entry point to Baguio City, the renowned summer capital of the Philippines. Every year, millions of tourists journey northward to revel in the refreshing and cozy climate that the city offers. With such a substantial influx of visitors gracing its streets each year, the importance of providing hospitable and inviting accommodation becomes paramount. Establishing a comfortable and welcoming lodging not only fulfills the basic need for shelter but also lays the foundation for creating lasting relationships with those seeking a tranquil abode during their stay.

Just an hour away from Baguio City, the Adventist Church in Northern Luzon (NLM) established a new building to provide lodging to both travelers and church employees in need of overnight accommodations. The NLM Guesthouse and Minipark was officially inaugurated on January 30, 2024, marking one year after its groundbreaking ceremony. 

Before its completion, NLM only had 6 rooms available for guest accommodation. This limitation often posed logistical hurdles during meetings and conventions, prompting NLM employees residing on the premises to graciously open their homes to host guests and visitors. 

Recognizing the pressing need for expanded accommodations, the present administration took the leap of faith and embarked on turning it into reality despite funding challenges. NLM employees contributed, and donors generously shared their resources, providing the necessary funding to kickstart construction. 

Today, NLM can host larger functions without worrying about accommodation. The $125K establishment offers 11 rooms of varying sizes, each fully equipped with air conditioning and water heaters, accommodating up to 65 individuals. While the rooms are simple, they offer comfortable amenities conducive to rest and relaxation for travelers en route to the north. 

Pastor Gerry Cajobe, president of the Adventist Church in the North Philippines (NPUC), voiced his joy at the completion of the project. He remarked, "It's reassuring to know that visitors to the NLM office, particularly our brethren from distant areas, will now have a place to stay should they need to spend the night. This initiative also underscores the hospitality of the NLM administration towards our guests.”

"We must not lose sight of the fact that this building isn't just meant to cater to the church's needs; its greater purpose is to extend a hand of unique hospitality, establishing connections and friendships within the community and among travelers," Cajobe emphasized.

Samuel Bacate, one of the pastors of NLM, expressed his appreciation, stating, "We are delighted to witness the innovation of our administration, which reflects their care for their workers. Their commitment inspires us as employees.”

The completion of the project reflects the NLM leadership's commitment to progress and their willingness to persevere despite challenges. It also speaks of the generous hearts of the workers who contributed their own finances to support the initiative. This project is an example of a group effort that was foresight- and faith-driven from start to finish.
