The Southwestern Philippine Union Conference (SWPUC) inaugurated its first constituency meeting, drawing representatives from diverse missions and conferences, including North Central Mindanao, Western Mindanao Conference, Central Mindanao Mission, Zamboanga Peninsula Mission, and Northeastern Mindanao Mission. The event also witnessed the participation of administrators from hospitals and colleges.

Southeastern Philippine Union Mission President, Pr. Danielo Palomares, led the Constituency Meeting, extending a warm welcome to pastors and laymen from various conferences.

Highlights of the meeting included the adoption of the bifurcation of the South Philippine Union Conference to become the Southwestern Philippine Union Conference and the unanimous acceptance of the motion affirming the mission statement of the Southwestern Philippine Union Conference. The constitution and bylaws of the SWPUC were officially adopted.

An important development emerged with the establishment of the organizing committee, tasked with selecting the nominating committee. This secondary committee will play a crucial role in nominating the upcoming leaders of the SWPUC.

The Nominating Committee consists of at least three ordained pastors and three lay members representing the local mission or conference. The Committee will nominate members for the Southwestern Philippine Union Conference Executive Committee and the vacant positions in SWPUC. Pr. Roger Caderma, President of the Southern Asia-Pacific Division, is in charge of the Nominating Committee.

In an atmosphere of warmth and anticipation, the first Constituency Meeting of the Southwestern Philippine Union Conference welcomed its newly-elected officers and directors on the late afternoon of December 6, 2023.

The appointment of Pr. Jerry Patalinghug as president and Pr. Dante Obbus as executive secretary marked significant milestones for the SWPUC.
Simultaneously with the elections, the assembly meticulously reviewed and unanimously endorsed a comprehensive financial report, encompassing detailed insights into the budget, baptisms, tithes, and offerings. The treasurer's report, a cornerstone of financial transparency, garnered unanimous approval.
Mission administrators were lauded and presented with plaques in recognition of their outstanding service.

During the evening's Commitment Service, Pr. Jacinto Adap, the treasurer of the Southern Asia-Pacific Division, expounded on the intrinsic value of unity within the church. He emphasized, "Without the transformative influence of the Holy Spirit shaping our character, genuine unity cannot flourish."

Additionally, he emphasized the crucial role of Christ-centered leadership in fostering harmony, forgiving others, and loving one another, which ultimately drives mission progress.

The commitment service culminated in the poignant dedication of the newly elected officials, reaffirming their unwavering commitment to uphold the mission and values of the SWPUC.
